Job Title: Technical staff member – physicist, R&D employee, specialist in the area of electron beam lithography and low temperature studies of transport properties of materials

Job Summary: Fabrication of nanostructures and devices from materials with topological properties using electron beam lithography, etching and metal deposition. Characterization of the produced nanostructures by scanning electron microscopy technique (SEM, EDX) and by ultra-low temperature and high magnetic field transport studies. Technical and IT support of the measuring apparatus. Conducting research on topological matter in one of MagTop’s experimental teams, EURAXESS: First Stage Researcher (R1)/Technical staff member.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in physics or related disciplines.
  • Experience in using of high vacuum apparatus.
  • Good knowledge of the method and experience in electron beam and optical lithography, allowing for the independent fabrication of nanostructures with the use of the SEM ZEISS Auriga / Raith system.
  • Experience in the fabrication of thin metallic layers by sputtering, thermal and electron heating methods.
  • Experience in experimental studies of Sn and IV-VI compounds with at least 4 years of research experience in the area of experimental studies of materials.
  • Experience in carrying out transport measurements at ultra-low temperatures (down to 300 mK) and strong magnetic fields, including the use of pumped helium-4 and helium-3 based coolers.
  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English allowing for reading of technical documentation and communication.

Conducting experimental research in one of  MagTop’s teams.

Research activity of MagTop is described in its agenda.

The International Centre for Interfacing Magnetism and Superconductivity with Topological Matter – MagTop is the Division (ON-6) of the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences  and is funded by a grant awarded to Professors Tomasz Dietl and Tomasz Wojtowicz within the International Research Agendas programme of the Foundation for Polish Science, carried out from the funds of the European Regional Development Fund under the Smart Growth Operational  Programme (SG OP), Priority Axis 4: Increasing the research potential, Measure 4.3: International Research Agendas . MagTop activities involve strong local and international collaborations, the strategic partner unit being Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Germany, particularly the Institute EP3 headed by Professor Laurens W. Molenkamp.

Job hours: Full-time

Employment type: Contract for one year with a possibility of prolongation
